Festive Breaks in Scotland

Had enough of crowds, shops and the general frantic mayhem of Christmas?

How about a roaring log fire and a glass of malt whisky or wine to greet you on your return in the evening, Santa and real Reindeer parading through the village on Christmas Eve, midnight sled dog rides wrapped up in furs travelling through the beautiful Rothiemurchus estate, Watch Night Service, mulled wine and mince pies at our lovely old Kirk and the magical Carol Service performed by local children in our village hall? . . . Does this sound better?

John and I think that the Cairngorm National Park is a lovely location for a Christmas or Hogmanay Break (OK! hands up, we’re biased! but it’s so beautiful here we believe we have reason to be!) With snow on the hills and a crisp bite in the air and more sunshine than you might think, it’s a great place over the festive season.

At Eagle View we will do everything we can to ensure that your stay with us meets your expectations; therefore, included in the package are, as already mentioned, a complimentary glass of whisky or wine on your return in the evening or indeed before you go to dinner, tea or coffee in the afternoon and lastly John’s favourite a bottle of malt whisky in the lounge, an absolute necessity he says in case there is snow on the ground!

As for Hogmanay? We’re Scottish, enough said. However, one of the main highlights in Newtonmore is the torchlight procession (torches provided for our guests) led through the village by local pipers and culminating in a fireworks display and a wee dram at the bells.

Ever wondered where the word Hogmanay originated? Well there are many theories but we like to think of it coming from the Gaelic “og maidne” (new morning) how Romantic is that?
